The SS America was an ocean liner built before world war II by the United States Lines, a Theodore Roosevelt company. During the war, it served as a troop ship. Afterward, it was refitted as a passenger ship and largely responsible for ferrying immigrating refugees from Europe to their new home in the U.S. In 1963, it was sold to become a cruise ship. It's successor would be the SS United States.
